Peugeot 103 long seat

I had been toying with the idea of using this long seat on the Peugeot for a while. I had originally used it on my Tomos when it was more of a daily rider bike. Anyway I offered it up and the front bolted straight on. I really like the look and once I sat on it that really made my mind up. It's so comfortable.

Peugeot rear mudguard + paint

I had this mudguard off an older 103 in the spares box and liked the look of it. I used a flap wheel to key the paint and remove any surface rust. Next I used some white primer. Once that's dry I'll paint it black to match the frame.

Reversed freewheel broken and fixed

After installing the new chains I peddled the Peugeot to check all the belts and pullies were working as they should. It didn't take long before the freewheel bent the bolt holding it in place and unscrewed itself.
I beefed up the bolts holding it in place so will see if it holds up.

Peugeot engine and radiator install

When I came to intall the engine on the new frame I found that the hole through the frame was 10mm but the hole through the engine was only an 8mm. I bought some M8 rod and 8mm id tube for spacers and it bolted on perfectly. Im still not sure of the angle that the engine needs to sit at so the carb clears the frame but for the photo I jammed the spring in there so the belt was tight. I also fitted the radiator and adjusted the stop on the front forks so it didnt hit it.

Reversed freewheel

Ok so for this dual variated project the free wheel needs to run in reverse as its on the other side of the bike to a standard single variated setup. Basically what this involves is installing the freewheel with its outer face (shown below) facing inwards. Unfortunately this means that the freewheel needs someway of being locked in place as when the bike is pedalled it automatically wants to unscrew it self from the hub.

So here's what I did. I drilled and tapped a hole in the side of the hub so I could install a thin screw headed bolt (shown below in red).

This meant that when I threaded on the freewheel face down. I could back the bolt out with the use of some pliers so that it would lock into one of the tabs (shown below).

It works the freewheel is now locked in place and ready to use.

Peugeot suspension converted to rigid

Due to extreme peer pressure I decided to hack up my old vogue rigid rear end and use it to temporarily replace my over length rear shocks. Happy now?

Free wheel removed brake plate adapted

Today I took the rear wheel from my Peugeot to the local cycle shop and they removed the free wheel for me. So now I can flip it over and reinstall it so the freewheel will now operate correctly with the rear wheel back to front.
I also modified the rear brake plate by grinding it down to fit the little tab on the new swing arm.

Dual variated swingarm 3

I got a bit more done on the peugeot the other day. I removed the front end from the vogue frame and installed it on the 103sp frame. The vogue frame just needs to be packaged up and then I'll post it off to Tomahawk. I installed the centre stand and seat on 103sp frame so its all coming together. Next I think I will install the motor and radiator.

Rear axle adjusters

I had to buy new axle adjusters to fit the dual variated peugeot swing arm. It turns out I could use half of the original set up.

Dual variated swingarm 2

This evening was the first opportunity ive had to work on the bikes since I got back from holiday. I started by cleaning the frame that Tomahawk sent me. Next I installed the dual variated swing arm which bolted straight onto the 103sp frame. Then I fitted the paioli rear shocks that I found on french ebay. When I offered up the rear wheel I realised that the shocks are a bit on the long side. They will be ok for the minute as im not sure how much ground clearance I will need for the exhaust anyway. The rear mud guard will need new holes drilling as they dont match with the new frame but I probably wont install the mud guards until I have the bike up and running. The next thing to do is remove the complete front end from the vogue and install it on the 103 frame. Then I will be able to package up the vogue frame and ship it to Tomahawk.

Peugeot Simonini Circuit Exhaust

Finally after a 7 month wait my Simonini pipe finally arrived.  The company I ordered it from was rrd-preparation.com. I would not recommend this company to anyone. The reason I ordered from them over anyone else was that its based in france so I thought shipping would be quicker and cheaper. The website has an impressive looking parts list but half of it is out of stock. When I ordered the exhaust I didnt realise it was out of stock. I was told the expected delivery time was 3 weeks. After a while I asked for a refund but got no reply. 7 months for parts is no fun so be warned and don't order your parts from this site.
